Liverpool Pains Shire Council held two community meetings on Monday August 11 at the Werris Creek Library and on Tuesday August 12 at the Library Precinct Hub, both nights were attended by approximately 13 interested residents.
The Liverpool Plains Shire Council has commissioned SC Lennon and Associates to prepare a new Destination Management Plan and Economic Development Strategy for the Liverpool Plains. When complete, the separate but related strategies will guide Council’s economic development and destination management planning priorities and actions over the next five years.
Sasha Lennon presented the meetings with a more detailed preview of what the Council is seeking from communities in Spring Ridge, Wallabadah, Blackville, Caroona, Werris Creek, Willow Tree, Pine Ridge and Quirindi, all being part of the Shire.
As a Director of SC Lennon and Associates, Sasha is an economist with 30 years’ experience, he is a nationally recognised leader in the field of economic development policy and strategy formulation, socio-economic research and analysis, industry studies, tourism strategies, destination management planning, economic impact assessment, business case preparation, investment attraction and strategic planning.
Sasha has prepared a number of economic development strategies, tourism strategies and destination management plans for Councils throughout the urban, regional and rural New South Wales.
The objective of these meetings is to build on the Liverpool Plains Shire Councils commitment to promoting prosperity, the Economic Development Strategy is to provide a clear, measurable and achievable plan to guide the development of the Shires economy, including attracting investment, supporting industry diversification, and enabling job creation and workforce growth.
The objective of the Destination Management Plan is to provide clear, measurable and achievable strategy to guide the development of the Liverpool Plains Shire’s visitor economy, including growing visitor numbers and maximising visitor spend.
These strategies will be developed in collaboration with Council’s community, industry and government partners.
Some of the questions that were asked at the meetings were:
What considerations should be the Liverpool Plains Shires key economic attributes or points of difference? Opportunities for economic development and tourism?
What are key issues, challenges and constraints impacting on the economic development and tourism prospects of the Liverpool Plains Shire?
What are some key potential projects and activities which could drive or support economic development and tourism in the Liverpool Plains Shire?
What should be the priority for the Liverpool Plains Shire Council in its role as a promoter, supporter and facilitator of economic development and tourism?
Some good issues were raised and discussed and taken away by Sasha Lennon to help in the preparation of the new Destination Management Plan and an Economic Development Strategy for the Liverpool Plains.
